More Vehicles¶

This Friday I visited Michael, a friend owning a 3d printer. After all, my vehicles are still without wheels. I brought along the wheels I designed in SketchUp, Michael converted the .stl to the format needed by the printer, and off it went.

The result was this:

Yeah... well - not as it should look like. As it turned out, SketchUp is missing the feature of boolean operations (at least in the free version), which lead to the wheel rim not being recognized correctly and thus not printed.

Michael then introduced me to OpenSCAD which does include boolean operations, and quickly tried to reproduce my design. The result looked much better :-) The small wheel was also reproduced using OpenSCAD, and I went home with two feels to fit to my vehicles.

The big wheel looks good, but was designed with a 24mm diameter while I need only 21mm. So I have to redesign it.

The small wheel fit perfectly as designed.

Yesterday, I spent the day getting used to OpenSCAD, much to the dismay of my wife - you know, one could have done so much relevant stuff... ;-)

Here the results, which are a bit more detailed like what Michael quickly did in 5 minutes, like the rounded interior side of the profile:

Now I need to ask Michael for 8 prints :-)

Thank you Michael :-)

[Warfork 40.000 - Rogue Rules]¶
Imperial Space Flush Marines¶

The first fire team is done. On the left shoulder pad the chapter symbl is missing, but this I first need to design and have printed as decals.

I painted a fire team designation on the helm, which is hard to see in the photos, and which also does not look good in real life... I have to come up with something different. In the end I can always paint it on the base, but I would like to have it on the model itself.

The rank designation of the Corporal is, according to the Roge Trader Space Marine painting guide, meant for Sergeants. I will try to give my Sergeants a double chevron - sufficient brush control provided.

I painted the bus' windows, tires, lights and antennas.Out of a whim I painted some of the panels on the top as windows to have more light in the interior. After all, this bus only transports workers to the construction site, but is not involved in the construction work itself, therefore the roof does not need to be protected.

I also painted the 3d printed tires, ready for mounting them on the vehicles.

Having catched another flue/virus/whatever which showed itself on Saturday, I am on sick leave this week. Between sleeping all day, I managed to put in some painting time within the few moments I have a clear head in between.

The ConServ vehicles are done, the 3d printed tires glued on. And it took me only since January...

On to the next models :-)

Armed Civilians¶

The clothes on all the models are done. I tried to aim for a brownish cowboy look on some, while trying to get a real colourful look on others to have a nice non-uniform look to the bunch.

The miniatures are done, all the detail is painted.

Bases still pending.

The armed civilians are done, ready painted and based. I quite like the mixed up look of the bunch:

Free Trader Crew¶

I continued work on the Free Trader Crew. First up is the Pilot, who also drives the mule to get cargo to and from the ship.

I wanted to paint the model on foot at the same time as the seated model. When I had both besides each other I noticed, that in my first attempt to give the seated drived the head of the Pilot, I grabbed one of the Security Specialist models... :-(

Out came the knife, off went the head and I instant moulded the correct head.

I then tried to sculpt the shirt of the original model on the seated driver.

Then came the painting. Orange suit and hawaian shirt.

After some colourful splotches, I tried to paint on some flower shapes in dark green - according to my wife I managed to archive the look of a childs painting attempts, but not a hawaian shirt look...

Here is the complete vehicle with driver seated and standing. The great panel on the front cries out for the Free Trader Crew logo - another decal I need to design and have custom printed.

The Captain is done. I gave him two different dresses instead of painting both models the same way.
