Shotgun Joe¶
While looking for miniatures I could use to convert to 40,000 militia/gangers, I thought I could give the WWII american infantry from Warlord Games a try, as they could be easily converted. I ordered one model through Mega Bitzshop to check on its size. Luckily I did so, because the model is way too small compared to GW, probably 25mm vs 32mm scale.
So I decided to use the model as an addition to my modern characters. I cut away all the webbing and the obviously WWII style boots.
I then used putty to resculpt the areas into plain cloth.
The shotgun arm I left off for ease of painting.

I highlighted the skin with dead flesh and the bandages with white. The eyes and teeth were painted white, as were the skulls on some of the models where the skin already rottet away.
The bone and teeth will get a brownish wash. I am unsure if I will leave the eyes as is or add a wash to give them a more defined outline.

Mercenaries¶
The mercenaries are done. The shotgun was glued to the side of the model, the string over the shoulder is made from a painted towel, strengthened with watered down PVA glue.

Mercenaries¶
The mercenaries are done for the most part. I now re-painted all still to be painted areas black.
The knife wielding guy looked a bit ridiculous to me, so he will be given a shotgun (from Bolt Action's WWII American Range) on a string slung over a shoulder, so he is not the only one without any firepower.

[Weird War II]¶
German Mad Doctor and his Zombie creations¶
I blocked in all the main colour areas. The Dr. and the officer I will paint seperately after all the grunts. The metal areas I painted in vallejo dark rust, skin in vallejo dead flesh, black areas in black, helmets in German Grey.
The larger rust areas were stippled with light rust.
The metal areas were then drybrushed in vallejo chainmail, the buttons were painted in chainmail.

German Mad Doctor and his Zombie creations¶
I washed the miniatures in warm soapy water to get rid of manufacturing residues. When they were dry, I basecoated them with my airbrush and Vallejo surface primer black 28.012, followed by a spray from a roughly 45° angle with Vallejo 70.830 German Field Grey WWII, thus creating the first shading of the uniform.

[Weird War II]¶
German Mad Doctor and his Zombie creations¶
While working on the Alternative Armies Terminators, the de-flashing and gluing bug bit me and I started to work on several other miniatures from my lead pile.
Among the miniatures waiting to be worked on were
- Joseph Umfangle, Mad German Doctor (Blackball Games)
- Wehrmacht Zombies including Officer (Studio Miniatures)
- Improved Whermacht Zombies (Blackball Games)
I assembled them, glued them to washers, applied plaster of paris to hide the integral bases, and added sand. While assembling the plastic zombies, I added some weaponry from Bolt Action to some of the miniatures, rifles they had still slung over their shoulder, or weapons held in spasmed hands, dragged behind the unliving.
Ready for basecoating.
