[Christmas Present]¶
Finance-Zwölfe¶

Today was the day! I placed the gift on the colleague's table before she arrived; when she opened it, she surprisingly immediately knew whom it was from - it could have been from anyone, couldn't it...? ;-)

She came laughing to my office carrying the glass dome and thanked me exuberantly, all the time laughing and discovering new details.

And thus looks the happy beneficiary :-)

Happy Christmas!

[Birthday Present]¶
Kalweit¶

One present done, on to the next. Originally, this one should have been done for Christmas as well, but time was just too short...

I paint miniatures during my lunchbreaks. More than once, my boss entered my office while I was painting and always looked very interested at what I was doing, while stating that he could never paint such small details and would not have the patience for such a hobby. Also more than once he said, that at some point in time I have to paint him a miniature too.

That point in time is now :-)

While I cannot do Christmas any more, his birthday is in January, this I should be able to make.

The miniature(s) I choose are linked to his ancestry, which includes smiths from eastern Europe, these were called Kalweit in certain areas.

I ordered a pack of smiths from Foundry, and by chance came across some Russians from the Seven Years War with a suitable pose and horse - I am not sure whether the Seven Years War affected any of my boss' ancestors, but that is an uncertainty I am willing to take for artistic reasons :-)

The models are cleared of flash, some minor filling/resculpting done, and are ready to be base coated.

Dwarf Reinforcements¶

I started to apply the unit colour, 72.027 Scurvy Green. Slowly, the models start to look like something.

[Birthday Present]¶
Kalweit¶

After gluing the models to washers for easier handling, I airbrushed them with 74.602 Black Surface Primer.

I then started to block in the colours:

  • Beige clothing

    70.819 Iraqui Sand

  • Red clothing

    70.814 Burnt Cad. Red

  • Blue Clothing

    70.899 Dark Prussian Blue

  • Brass

    70.801 Brass

  • Skin

    70.815 Basic Skintone

Today I finished painting the green parts, then used 72.043 Beasty Brown to paint all the leather parts.

[Birthday Present]¶
Kalweit¶

I painted in some more details, then sprayed the models in gloss varnish to protect the work done so far, and to provide capillary action to the washes that will follow.

  • Beige clothing

    70.819 Iraqui Sand

  • Red clothing

    70.814 Burnt Cad. Red

  • Blue Clothing

    70.899 Dark Prussian Blue

  • Brass

    70.801 Brass

  • Hair/moustaches

    72.047 Wolf Grey

  • Boots/helmets

    70.861 Glossy Black

[Warfork Fantasy Battles]¶
Dwarf Reinforcements¶

I painted the clothes 70.952 Lemon Yellow, the banner pole top, dagger hilt and pommel 72.057 Bright Bronze.

Next up were the beards, which I painted in 5 tones:

  • 70.870 Medium Sea Grey
  • 72.039 Plague Brown
  • 70.982 Cavalry Brown
  • 70.987 Medium Grey
  • 70.843 Cork Brown

[Warfork Fantasy Battles]¶
Nordman Mercenary Journeymen¶

After painting the bases, I started with the trousers. First, they were painted white in three consecutive lighter shades:

  • 70.989 Sky Grey
  • 70.907 Pale Greyblue
  • 70.993 White Grey

Then, I added stripes in different coulours. I tried to paint them quite thin, so the shaded white would shine through and give a first shading/highlighting to the stripes.

  • 70.956 Light Orange
  • 72.025 Foul Green
  • 70.925 Intense Blue
  • 70.811 Blue Violet
  • 70.953 Flat Yellow

A thin wash of SWW001 Soft Body Black was applied as extra shade over the whole trousers. The stripes were then highlighted in the base colour with some white mixed in.

The yellow looked a bit weird, so I washed the yellow stripes with very thin 73.200 Sepia Shade, then highlighted with 70.915 Deep Yellow.

The skin was basecoated, then highlighted in several steps, always mixing the new colour into the last one.

  • 70.872 Chocolate Brown
  • 70.804 Beige Red
  • 72.703 Pale Flesh

With the next batch of 5 models, I basically followed the scheme from the first group. To slightly change the appearance (it is neither a uniform for the unit nor industrially manufactured clothes), I added blue to the basecolours of all the stripes.

The shirts I also painted slightly differently, but still using the same main colours as in the first group:
