[Eclipse]¶
Mechanema¶

We played Eclipse for the last couple of times with our boardgame group of people, so I thought it was about time to get the miniatures painted.

The Mechanema are the white player aliens. When looking at their portrait, I immediately thought turquoise tinted white. And that is how I painted them.

I basecoated them in 73.601 Grey Primer applied through my airbrush, then sprayed them in 1:10 71.001 White : 72.024 Falcon Turquoise.

They were then drybrushed white, and then got some white highlights painted on where the drybrush was not enouh.

Metal areas were painted 71.073 Black.

The windows I painted in

  • 72.015 - Hexed Lichen
  • 72.014 - Warlord Purple
  • 72.013 - Squid Pink

I then painted a dark spot with SWW002 Heavy Body Black over the Hexed Lichen, and added a white dot to represent light reflection.

The models were then sprayed with gloss varnish and had a Winsor and Newton Lamp Black oil wash (mixed with Sansodor) applied, which was afterwards rubbed off the high areas with qtips and Sansodor.

Finally, the models were sealed with matt varnish.

Dwarf Reinforcements¶

The axemen are done except for the bases and shields.

Some progress on the axemen.

[Birthday Present]¶
Kalweit¶

I spent about another 12 hours on Sunday on the diorama, finishing it at 0:30. After the matt varnish dried over night, all that was left to do in the morning was gluing the plastic base to the wooden base.

Thanks to DHL's reluctance to do their job, it was pretty tight finishing the present in time. I had not two full days instead of two weeks I could have worked on the base.

Due to the time pressure I did not take many notes concerning colours used.

I covered the joints in putty to represents the connecting pieces. The chimney was then pinned to the wood beam for added stability.

The coals were first painted in 70.951 white.

I then painted 71.002 Yellow over it. Due to the white the yellow is more vibrant.

Leaving the yellow in the recesses, I painted the higher areas in 72.009 Hot Orange

The final layer was done 72.155 Heavy Charcoal, representing the coldest part of the coals.

After gluing the miniatures into place, I used plaster to hide their integral bases before gluing fine bird cage sand below the roof and coarser sand around the building.

From 0.4mm brass wire I created the chain links for the business sign.

The roof was done from strips of shingles cut from card.

After applying the matt varnish, I painted the inside of the water bucket with gloss varnish again, to make it shine and look wet.

The finished present

[Birthday Present]¶
Kalweit¶

Finally, only two weeks late, I have the glass dome - not that DHL delivered it, I had to fetch it from the post office - not that DHL informed me it was there or even tried to deliver it to my home first...

Now the challenge now is to build all of the diorama in 1.5 days... Thank you DHL.

The first test positioning:

I cut a circle from plastic card on to which I will mount the diorama, to prevent to get colour or stuff onto the wood.

I settled for an open sided shed as the Kalweit's workshop, of which a small edge is represented by the diorama. I conctructed the beams and glued them into place.

The smithy itself is missing a chimney, and my beam construction only has two vertical supports - so the chimney will form the third for added stability. I cut three pieces from wood rod, and inserted pins.

I finished the horses equipment.
