[Birthday Present]¶
Kalweit¶

I painted in some more details, then sprayed the models in gloss varnish to protect the work done so far, and to provide capillary action to the washes that will follow.

Today I finished painting the green parts, then used 72.043 Beasty Brown to paint all the leather parts.

[Birthday Present]¶
Kalweit¶

After gluing the models to washers for easier handling, I airbrushed them with 74.602 Black Surface Primer.

I then started to block in the colours:

    70.819 Iraqui Sand

    70.814 Burnt Cad. Red

I started to apply the unit colour, 72.027 Scurvy Green. Slowly, the models start to look like something.

[Birthday Present]¶
Kalweit¶

One present done, on to the next. Originally, this one should have been done for Christmas as well, but time was just too short...

I paint miniatures during my lunchbreaks. More than once, my boss entered my office while I was painting and always looked very interested at what I was doing, while stating that he could never paint such small details and would not have the patience for such a hobby. Also more than once he said, that at some point in time I have to paint him a miniature too.

That point in time is now :-)

While I cannot do Christmas any more, his birthday is in January, this I should be able to make.

The miniature(s) I choose are linked to his ancestry, which includes smiths from eastern Europe, these were called Kalweit in certain areas.

I ordered a pack of smiths from Foundry, and by chance came across some Russians from the Seven Years War with a suitable pose and horse - I am not sure whether the Seven Years War affected any of my boss' ancestors, but that is an uncertainty I am willing to take for artistic reasons :-)

The models are cleared of flash, some minor filling/resculpting done, and are ready to be base coated.

[Christmas Present]¶
Finance-Zwölfe¶

Today was the day! I placed the gift on the colleague's table before she arrived; when she opened it, she surprisingly immediately knew whom it was from - it could have been from anyone, couldn't it...? ;-)

She came laughing to my office carrying the glass dome and thanked me exuberantly, all the time laughing and discovering new details.

And thus looks the happy beneficiary :-)

Happy Christmas!

Dwarf Reinforcements¶

I painted the plate armour, helmets and spear tips in 70.864 - Natural Steel. Although this colour is darker and less shiny than the Chainmail, the contrast between the two colours is not that good - especially from some distance away they look almost the same.

To distinguish the two colours, I added GW Asurmen Blue wash to the steel. This provided a level of contrast I was happy with.

The whole unit so far.

[Christmas Present]¶
Finance-Zwölfe¶

The Zwölfe was sprayed in gloss varnish from a spray can, then with matt varnish. When this was dry, the gems were painted with 70.510 Gloss Varnish with a brush to give them a more glass like appearance.

Final touch was the sign at the front:

Finance-Zwölfe bringt den neuen Kontenschlüssel

literally:

Finance-Zwölfe delivers new account key

Finance-Zwölfe delivers new account determination

Then I glued the miniature in place, putting her foot on the pile of folders.

Here is the final result:

And with the dome in place:

Finished just in time to be handed over tomorrow :-)

All the colours I used for this project:

I finished the bases with the last drybrush of ivory, then started to paint the Dwarves:

  • Chainmail 72.053 Chainmail Silver (surprise!)
  • Skin 72.041 Dwarf Skin (obviously!)
  • Spear shaft 72.065 Terracotta

I basecoated the bases, then applied the first drybrush.
